Nutrition Performance Trial Comparing
TONI’S HPMs Against Elite and Recreational
Runners Own Go-To Race Meals

RESULT HIGHLIGHTS
Average race times improved up to +2.6% when runners ate TONI’S HPMs as compared with their own breakfast of equivalent calories.
Best individual performance time improvement consuming TONI’S HPMs as compared to their own meal, was 1:49 faster performance on the 3-mile first segment and :52 faster performance time on the second 1.5-mile segment.

PROTOCOL
The protocol was written by a Stanford physician specializing in nutrition research, to determine the effectiveness of TONI’S High-Performance Hot Protein Meals, (TONI’S HPM) on athlete’s performance.
The purpose was to learn if TONI’S HPM provided better sustainable energy and therefore improvement on athletic performance, as compared to their preferred meal of choice.
CONTROL AND STUDY GROUP
Two groups consisting of 10 elite and 10 recreational male runners,
between the ages of 35 and 55, were selected.
RACE FORMAT
Starting July 2016, the runners were asked perform a series of 3 races, scheduled one week apart on a local track. The format of the race was based on the concept of “Double Running” which provides for a break in between the first and second segment, where the body cools down.
The race distance was 4.5 miles in total, divided into two parts. The first segment was 3 miles and the second segment was 1.5 miles and was conducted over a four-hour period from the time the participants consumed their meal to the end of each race.

CONTROL GROUP
The first race was considered the baseline run by the Control group. It consisted of all participants who were asked to take their regular diet of equivalent calories 90 minutes prior to the first leg of the race. They were instructed to consume as much plain water as needed, but no additional food.

STUDY GROUP
The second race was considered the STUDY GROUP. It also consisted of all participants who were asked to consume TONI’S HPM, which was given to them in unmarked packages and under the same guidelines as RACE 1, with the intent to compare the effectiveness of TONI’S HPM against their regular diet consumed during RACE 1.

STUDY GROUP
The third race was also considered the STUDY GROUP. RACE 3 was to see if the results from RACE 2 were repeatable.
